There are 3 Levels of Sewing Camps based on the difficulty of the techniques used in the projects that week. Please only sign up for classes appropriate for your child’s level. We know sometimes kids are excited about a project but if it is too far beyond their abilities, they won’t be happy with the results and it will be challenging for all of us. Experienced sewists are welcome to do any of the camps. The results of their projects will likely be more polished and we can offer additional projects for them if they complete their projects early. If you have any question about your student’s abilities, please email us to discuss or ask your child’s instructor.

Learn to Sew Friendly– This week will start with instruction on how to use the sewing machine safely and some practice sewing. The projects will mostly use straight lines at the beginning of the week and increase slightly in difficulty as the week goes on.

Advanced Beginner Friendly– These projects will be able to be completed by a beginner sewist, but we expect they have taken a Learn to Sew class or camp, or have used a sewing machine enough to know some basics about where to keep their hands and keeping a straight line of stitching. These projects may require sewing curves and more precise stitching. Projects may have more cutting and prep work.

Experienced Only– These projects require stamina and patience as they often have a lot of prep work and cutting. They also require precise stitching and may use complicated techniques and/or challenging fabrics.

We will have Weekly Themed Camps that run Monday through Thursday 9am-1pm. A few are Monday through Wednesday.

We also have Mini Camps which run Tuesday & Thursday 1:30-4pm both days for 1 week.

We will offer a Weekly Sewing Studio on Mondays & Wednesdays 1:15-3pm and Thursday 4-5:30pm. We will be adding a few Adult Camps as well.

The Makery is a sewing studio located in Scituate, MA. Our kids classes are for students ages 7 and up. Students will be using sewing machines and sharp objects, so we expect that they are able to listen and follow directions. If your child has never used a sewing machine, they need to start with a Learn to Sew friendly class. This ensures that they learn how to safely use the sewing machine and tools in the studio and are comfortable threading the machine, winding a bobbin and are starting to understand how to land their stitches where they want them before joining the next level of classes.

In all of our classes, it is our goal to allow children to be creative, learn sewing skills and techniques so they can become independent sewists and to learn how to persevere through mistakes and challenges so they can feel the pride of completing a project over time. We have high quality sewing machines and tools for the students to use as well as a selection of fabrics. All materials are included in the class tuition.

Click into the “Classes” tab above, then “Kids Classes” to make sure you see all that is offered as they don’t all show on one page.

What Our Students Are Saying

Adorable little studio with an amazing instructor. Caitlin is extremely patient and oh so creative. I have learned so much and can’t wait for the next session of adult classes!
Lisa B

Our love for this adorable place just grows and grows! We started with a mother / daughter class which we both loved! My daughter has continued on and has been making all kinds of creative fun things. It is her favorite activity! We had her 8th birthday party there today and it did not disappoint!!! All the girls had a great time and made amazing emoji pillows (no goody bag needed!!!). It could not have been more reasonably priced or easier for us, all we had to do was show up! I am so grateful to have this studio in town!!!
Nicole C

Caitlin and her staff are fantastic! She taught me to sew and then my kids! She’s very patient and truly cares about the kids. She taught my kids to use the machine safely and independently to the point where they critique my sewing technique, “Mom, don’t put your fingers in the danger zone!”. Highly recommend.

Amy H

I had so much fun at this class! Went in literally knowing nothing more than how to set up my machine. Caitlin chooses fun and easy projects to get started (I followed up this one with another of her sewing project classes) and gives so many tips to improve. I only wish I had more time to practice.
Tracy

Caitlin is amazing with kids. My girls have been loving their class and everything they’ve made.
Terri S

My girls love it! Caitlin is awesome! I can’t sew, now they can take care of all our buttons!
Justine M

My daughter, who rejects most activities, came home super excited about sewing class. She loved every minute and was eager to go back! Caitlin is calm, patient, and very knowledgeable. Send your kids here!
